Let's try this again (and we apologize for the double dose of the Daily Money you got today thanks to a technical glitch).
Hi, Daily Money friends. Happy Thursday. Not gonna lie: it's been kind of a rough week: we missed out on the Reese's pie and we're losing Nathan, who played a major role in shaping this newsletter and USA TODAY's cars coverage.
My name is Jayme Deerwester and I'm an editor here in the Money, Tech and Travel section here at USA TODAY. I'll be taking over the newsletter – and because I'm probably the biggest petrolhead in the department after Nathan (seriously, people, my car's license plate frame bears a James May quote), the cars beat as well.
💰 The Daily Money is USA TODAY's Monday-through-Friday-morning roundup of all things personal finance, business and tech. If this email was forwarded to you or if you found it online, you can subscribe for free here!
On to our ...
💡 INSIGHT OF THE DAY: The childless among us may do a double take at the gas station or grocery store checkout but if you want to know the true pain of inflation , ask your friends with kids in daycare.  Costs for child care have gone up over 100% in Georgia, Louisiana, Florida and Ohio during the COVID-19 pandemic and they're up in pretty much every state. In fact, a year of daycare in about 40 states now costs more than a year of my in-state college tuition back in the 1990s. Ouch. USA TODAY's Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy looks into how we ended up here and how parents are struggling to cope.
