Happy New Year's Eve, Money readers, Mike Snider here filling in with the latest financial and business news on the last day of 2019.

The stock market has one last full day of trading this year and as markets reporter Jessica Menton notes, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 have each climbed more than 20% this year.

Heading into 2020, her outlook story suggests stocks could continue to climb despite some concerns about volatility in regards to trade talks and the 2020 elections.

For more immediate concerns, should you need to shop today or on New Year's Day, business reporter Kelly Tyko lets you know what retailers and grocers are open – and when – over the holiday.

Keep scrolling down for more Money news. And Happy New Year!

Happy Friday, Money readers. It's David, wrapping up the week with our best financial and tech stories.

Holiday sales were strong but many chains are struggling as shopping undergoes a sea change. After a tumultuous year including more than 9,200 store closures and liquidations of stores like Payless, many chains are heading into 2020 on thin ice.

Like most Americans, you probably strapped your Christmas tree to the roof of an SUV when you brought it home. Not only are these vehicles flying out of dealerships, but they're also getting bigger. Here's why.

And while your tree shimmers in the living room, what about all those sad Tannenbaums that families passed over? Don't fret. They're headed for a useful afterlife.
