All the misleading buzz about Social Security and tax cuts for seniors in the "One Big Beautiful Bill," now a law, foreshadows one ugly scene after another at tax preparation offices next year, Susan Tompor writes in her column.

It's not going to be pretty when many ill-informed retirees file 2025 tax returns, Tompor opines, because of misunderstandings about how the new law affects taxes on Social Security benefits.

What is the 'lock-in phenomenon'?

Americans are increasingly cautious about selling their homes in 2025, a new survey from Bankrate found.

More than half of U.S. homeowners said they would be uncomfortable selling their home this year, no matter the mortgage rate, an increase of 12 percentage points from last year's survey.
