Inflation rose again in September, according to the latest Labor Department Consumer Price Index, which was released today. |
The measure of goods and service costs across the country was delayed this month by the ongoing government shutdown and October data has been suspended. Have a penny? They're harder to find. |
Shortages of pennies are starting to crop up since the production of pennies stopped. The Treasury Department marked the beginning of the end of penny production in May after President Donald Trump told the department to stop making the coins. |
The U.S. Mint reportedly made its last pennies in August and some convenience stores, supermarkets and retailers are starting to report locations dealing with penny shortages. |
Larger tax refunds coming? |
An economist predicts that Americans – particularly the affluent – will receive larger tax refunds or smaller tax bills when they file in 2026. |
That comes from President Donald Trump's tax and spending package passed in July, reports Medora Lee. |
