Hey there, Daily Money readers! It's Josh again with today's newsletter.

Capping off the year in money news, 20 states and 32 cities and counties – including many in California – are set to raise their minimum wages on or about New Year's Day, according to a report provided exclusively to USA TODAY by the National Employment Law Project (NELP), a worker advocacy group. Our own Paul Davidson has all the details.

In related job news, the number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell by 19,000 but remain elevated at 787,000 as a resurgent coronavirus grips the U.S. economy.

And before you go, there are two product recalls you should be aware of:

Target recalls 480,000 infants' rompers, swimsuits over choking, pinching concerns

FDA recalls Sportmix pet food after 28 deaths and 8 illnesses in dogs

(If you're trying to get some shopping done on New Year's Day, here's a list of operation hours of the major retailers.)

The Daily Money: Your stimulus check 💵 could be in your account already

Today's top stories from USA TODAY Money. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Have you checked your bank account today? Your economic impact payment may already be there.

Good morning, Daily Money readers. This is Josh Rivera bringing you the top Money & Tech headlines.

Let's get to main story: When it comes to the $600 stimulus checks, Americans who have direct deposit set up through the Internal Revenue Service could have received their payment as early as last night. Paper checks will begin to be mailed today, according to the Treasury Department.

(And if you were wondering where we stand on the payments being bumped to $2,000, it seems unlikely. Our partners in Politics have the latest on what happened in the Senate to the proposal.)

Speaking of money and government, we have the 2020-2021 federal tax brackets and tax rates for you to check out here.

And as we approach the new year, USA TODAY reporters Nathan Bomey and Kelly Tyko looked into the retailers that survived 2021 and how 2021 is a "make it or break it" year for them.

"While 2020 was a mess for many retailers, leading to the liquidation of chains like Stein Mart and Pier 1 Imports, it was a boon to others, like Walmart, Target and Dick's Sporting Goods," they say.

I'll be back in your inbox tomorrow with more headlines!
