The Daily Money: Student loan repayments resume Jan. 1. Why you should prepare now

Although many borrowers are still months away from payments resuming, it's important to prepare now. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Not only is it Wednesday, readers, but the final day of August. It's Brett Molina back with your Daily Money headlines as we inch closer to  the holiday weekend.

Baseball is in full swing, and football is about to make its glorious return. If you attended any sporting events in the last year, then you likely noticed more tickets available on your smartphone.

It's just the beginning. More pro and college teams are embracing biometric entry into events instead of the traditional paper ticket. Teams say the practice protects fans from people trying to sell fake tickets. On the downside, good luck trying to maintain a cool ticket stub collection chronicling those memories.

Student loan repayments: Get ready now

Part of President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness plan was extending the moratorium for making payments on federal debt until Dec. 31. Although many borrowers are still months away from payments resuming, it's important to prepare now.

What steps can you take? If you haven't made a student loan payment in a while, double check with your loan servicer how much you owe and your monthly payment. Also, check that interest rate. If it's too high, you might be able to refinance and save money. Another option: make payments before the moratorium lifts. Because the pause includes a 0% interest rate, payments made before Jan. 1 goes fully toward the principal of the loan.

The Daily Money: Is the housing market in a recession or correction?

Experts agree the housing industry is in the midst of a slowdown. But there's debate on whether to classify it as a correction or recession. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Happy Tuesday, readers. It's Brett Molina back again with your top Daily Money headlines.

Have you been enjoying a bump in your credit score? Expect those boosts to slow down. For the first time in more than a decade, Americans' FICO scores held steady at 716 year-over-year from April 2021 to last year.

So does that mean a recession is near? Maybe. Experts tell USA TODAY it's too soon to tell. In fact, a shift in how scores are moving won't predict a recession but will signal that it's already happened.

And a friendly reminder: A FICO score between 670 to 739 is considered good, 740 to 799 is very good, and anything above that is exceptional. A FICO score below 670 is either considered fair or poor.

🏠 Housing market: Recession or correction?

Make up your mind, housing industry. Are you in a recession or correction? While many experts agree there is a major drop-off in activity since reaching its early-pandemic peaks, there is debate on the current slowdown hitting the housing market. Most importantly, though, experts agree the housing market is nowhere close to the crash during the 2008 Great Recession.
