Happy Thursday. This is Katie Wedell with today's headlines.

There may be fewer headlines coming out of the New York Times newsroom today because about 1,000 employees are holding a 24-hour walkout after negotiations on the newsroom's union contract have stalled.

This is the first strike of its kind at the newspaper in more than 40 years.

Lots of news out of Ford

Ford Motor Company has a lot going on at the moment.

The automaker confirmed yesterday that 1,000 employees elected to retire ahead of a Dec. 1 deadline in order to keep more of their lump sum pension payments.

The retirements are independent of job cuts in parts of the company that focus on traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Some reductions happened this year and CEO Jim Farley has indicated that additional job cuts may be on the horizon.

And owners of Ford Focus and Fiesta cars say they feel like they've been "ghosted" by the company as their vehicles languish in lots for months waiting on replacement of faulty transmission control modules.
