ALL THE MONEY NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Tue Feb 18 2025

Daniel de Visé Personal Finance Reporter

Good morning! It's Daniel de Visé with your Daily Money.

If you're freaking out because you're one of the tens of thousands of federal employees who recently received a pink slip, there's help for you, Medora Lee reports.

With the proper mindset and guidance, workers can retake control of their situation, experts say. Here are some tips.

More people seeking addiction help for sports betting

Seven years ago, Ken Alltucker reports, only Nevada allowed wagering on sporting events.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018 struck down a ban on sports gambling, sports betting has spread to all but a dozen states. But a new study links the proliferation of this type of betting to a rise in the number of people who might be addicted to gambling.

Privatizing housing agencies might bring benefits

One of the Trump White House's key policy reforms may be something that touches the lives of millions of Americans, but that few people know about.

The administration will likely attempt to unshackle Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the mortgage guarantors, from their current position as wards of the state, Andrea Riquier reports.

Housing finance observers see it as an opportunity to fundamentally remake a system that hasn't been able to purge systemic racism embedded in its processes, and to close the gap on serving historically marginalized communities.

A sign for Freddie Mac is seen at their corporate headquarters campus on Oct. 9, 2024, in Tysons Corner, VA. Future of CFPB hangs in the balance: What's next for consumer protection?

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has been a go-to financial agency for dealing with bad practices. Trump administration wants to end it.

Trump's social media posts cause less market movement in second term

Bank analysts found that only 10% of the 126 posts Trump had published this time around on sensitive topics had caused clear currency market moves.
