ALL THE MONEY NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Betty Lin-Fisher Consumer reporter

@blinfisher

Happy Friday! This is Betty Lin-Fisher with today's consumer-focused edition of The Daily Money.

Last year, Gen Z shoppers were planning to spend 37% more on their holiday shopping, according to an annual holiday shopping outlook by PwC, a global professional services firm.

But this year is different, Ali Furman, PwC consumer markets industry leader told me.

Gen Z shoppers said they are cutting back on their holiday spending by an average of 23%. Overall, U.S. consumers of all ages said they'd be spending 5% less this holiday season, citing rising prices, tariffs and higher cost of living.

An unwelcome raise

Working-age Americans who get health insurance through their jobs will soon confront an unpleasant fact – the largest health insurance rate increases since 2010, reports my colleague Ken Alltucker.

A survey of more than 1,700 employers revealed cost per employee was on pace to increase an average of nearly 9% in 2026, according to benefits consultant Mercer. Another report from consultant Aon projected employer health costs would rise 9.5% next year.

Here's how caregiving can help your resume, not hurt it

Family caregivers often give up careers or pull back from jobs to assist their loved ones. While that transition can significantly impact caregivers' finances and sense of purpose, some caregivers find themselves called to continue care work, as health aides, advocates, storytellers and in other ways, reports my colleague Madeline Mitchell.

Even caregivers who leave the workforce for several years find they've gained new, resume-worthy skills.
