Good morning! It's Daniel de Visé with your Daily Money, Sunday tax edition. Between now and April 15, we'll be briefing some of our most popular stories about Tax Season 2025. |
Today, we'll start with a story that is the most popular tax-season topic of the year, by a wide margin. We're talking millions of readers. |
About those $1,400 IRS stimulus checks. . . |
The Internal Revenue Service announced in December it would be distributing about $2.4 billion, up to $1,400 per individual, in stimulus checks to U.S. taxpayers who did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns. | This round of stimulus checks was set up after the agency reviewed internal data showing that many eligible taxpayers who filed a 2021 tax return did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit, a refundable credit for individuals who didn't receive one or more Economic Impact Payments, more commonly known as stimulus payments. Taxpayers who didn't file 2021 tax returns could be eligible as well. |
What are the new tax brackets? |
Here's another topic that resonated with readers: The 2024 tax brackets. |
Tax brackets are the tax rates that apply to different tiers of income, adjusted each year for inflation. For 2024, the taxes you pay in 2025, the lowest tax rate is 10%. It applies to a single filer's income up to $11,600. |
