Federal agencies that influence or fund American health care face widespread changes under plans by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to eliminate 10,000 jobs from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Will cuts make Social Security more efficient?

Achieving government efficiency has been a mantra of President Donald Trump's second term, Medora Lee reports, but some people say the slashing of the Social Security Administration will have the opposite effect.

Last month, SSA announced a massive reorganization that would include "significant workforce reductions." The move set off alarm bells for some politicians, policy experts, and Social Security consultants, who warned the program's 72.5 million Social Security beneficiaries could face a slowdown in services.

Americans are buying homes despite elevated rates

Rates for home loans have ticked down fractionally, but they remain stuck in a narrow range that isn't helping – or hurting – the housing market.

In the week ending March 27, 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.65%, Andrea Riquier reports. Yet, even as mortgage rates tread water, Americans are still trying to buy homes.
