As President Donald Trump contemplates extending a global trade war to imports from Europe, the health-care industry is gauging potential fallout from tariffs levied on goods imported from China.

Health analysts and generic drug manufacturers said the 20% levy from two rounds of tariffs on goods imported from China, a major supplier of medical equipment and prescription drugs for the United States, could shrink inventories and raise prices.

Senators grill Dr. Oz

In other wellness news, television host and surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz was grilled by senators on Friday during a hearing on his bid to run an agency that oversees health coverage for more than 160 million Americans.

During Friday's hearing, Oz vowed to empower patients to take charge of their health care and crack down on fraud, waste and abuse to safeguard federal health programs. But senators grilled the celebrity doctor on his record.

The trade war simmers on

In the latest trade salvo, President Trump said he does not intend to create exemptions to sweeping steel and aluminum tariffs and reaffirmed that additional duties will go into effect early next month.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One late Sunday, Trump said 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imported into the U.S., which went into effect last week, are here to stay.
